The Black Family Health Expo is coming to Baltimore this week
Early next week. A powerful annual community event focused on health, education and empowerment returns to Baltimore this weekend. The port, city and Baltimore links chapters prepare for the 2026 Black Family Health Expo. And join me now to share what’s in store with Expo Co-Chair Dr. Hasan2 Black, Coppin State University Freshman Basketball Player and CKD Coach WACHUCHUCHUKD. Thank you both for being here. Thanks for visiting us. First few questions for you, Dr. Blake, What is the Black Family Welfare Fair and why is it so important to the community? The Black Family Health Fair is a free community health event that provides health screenings and health resources to the Baltimore community. So what is this year’s theme and why is it important to highlight this particular theme? Well, we’ve partnered with Wantio this year to bring kidney health information to Baltimore communities. And that’s really important because most people don’t know they have kidney disease. And especially in the black community, we are four times more likely to have kidney failure. all right? the right And often, like you said, it’s not diagnosed until it’s too late. all right? the right So what types of resources and services can families expect when they attend? Well, if you come on a Saturday, you can expect free screenings, free haircuts, free Internet access from Comcast. This will truly be a community event. yes. Well, Princess, you bring a truly unique perspective as a student athlete and CKD coach. What exactly is CKD training? So chronic kidney disease is the loss of function of your kidneys over time. And with the help of Venetia and the links included, I was able to educate about 50 people about kidney disease. And among these 50 people I was able to train my teams as well. So I was able to train my teams and talk about things like where their kidneys were, how to prevent kidney disease, how to treat kidney disease. And I was also able to invite them to the show on Saturday. interesting Why is it important for young people to be educated? I believe it teaches young people how to take care of their bodies from a young age. It also teaches young people about prevention and treatment, and it often helps young people to take care of their health more often. Are you interested in the medical field? Yes, yes. Good for you. So you two are hoping to visit the families this weekend? Hopefully, families will be able to find the right resources they need. Regarding the kidney disease, we hope to see you on Saturday and not only for yourself, but for family, friends, etc. We really want people to leave this expo feeling empowered. So we invite everyone to the Black Family Health Fair. It’s free. It is open to all. It’s Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mondaumin Mall Village. the right And like you said, kidney disease is really common. yes. And so you can really help someone or someone’s family member really take care of their health. So it’s not going down a difficult path for sure. yes. thank you so much. Thanks for visiting us here. And the Black Family Wellness Show, as we said, is free, open to the public this Saturday, March 21 at the Village of Mondaumen Mall. And for the mother
