Before experiencing it myself, I would have just laughed at the suggestion of a “family wellness retreat.” Considering everyone’s individual needs, desires, abilities and schedules, the idea of integrating wellness into a vacation once seemed to me as absurd as climbing Mount Everest with a newborn.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this view. Self-care for parents is often set as a single task. All caregivers deserve a little breathing room, although we mothers, in particular, are told to take time to recharge from our children, that we cannot draw from an empty cup, and that we deserve to rest.
But what if you could get the best of both worlds in a retreat that’s a wellness center for the whole family? Around the world, a new family wellness retreat is turning that fantasy into reality.
5 A family wellness retreat for a group reorganization
Even the youngest members of your clan can experience mind-altering drugs. These wellness retreats redefine the possibilities of destination family visits in some of the world’s most desirable destinations.
1. VanderWilde Family Retreat | St. Sebastian River Conservancy, Florida
“Parents are now more aware that integrating health into their daily lives requires incorporating it,” says Monica Verga Alborno, founder of VanderWilde Family Retreat. The property’s Wild Florida Family Spring Retreat extends that invitation to the entire family.
Jogging, ground-to-table cuisine, and fusion yoga woven into Pilates and Qigong elements are just a few of the highlights at this subtropical sanctuary. More adventurous families will appreciate WanderWild’s thoughtfully crafted blend of outdoor-focused childcare and time for meaningful memories in the 40-acre wetlands, where they share a stunning home to tens of thousands of plant and animal species, including the high-flying hawk and Florida panther.
While one parent sits in the cocoa circle and the other enjoys the cool weather, children can create nature art in a sensory, play-driven forest school. Afternoon river cruises and wildlife viewing experiences create excitement for the whole family under the Florida stars for late afternoon somatic animal yoga sessions, primitive grilling, and outdoor movie nights.
“This retreat is meant to take you back in time for a real Florida safari that feels wild, untamed and simple. When it was inaccessible it wasn’t impossible—it was normal,” Alborno says. “I think most of us are interested in it.”
Dates: The Wild Florida Family Spring Retreat takes place from April 3 to April 6, 2026. A private family retreat plan is also open for 2026.
Cost: Prices for the Wild Florida Family Spring Retreat start at $4,499 for two adults and up to three children. The cost is all inclusive, depending on room selection. 2. River Mountain Retreat Center | Everett, Pennsylvania
The Mindful Family Retreat, hosted this fall by Love Yoga Studio Yoga School Director Asia Vienna Lake, is a weekend designed to help families connect slowly and mindfully. The retreat invites co-existence from day one, including creekside yoga platforms along Warrior Ridge and Tosi Mountain and culminating in intention-setting campfire gatherings for all.
While this is Leo Yoga Studio’s first official family retreat, many adult family members have previously attended retreats together, from mother-daughter duos to sister-cousin combos, and Lake hopes to continue the tradition. “This family yoga retreat is truly inclusive of children and their parents/guardians to serve as a wellness booster for the younger generation,” says Lake. “Getting them started with mindfulness exercises is a way to provide security and set them up for success when it comes to facing life’s challenges,” she says.
Fresh Air Family Yoga begins the day’s journey at the retreat, followed by shared meals and nightly breezes, offering a wonderfully planned mix of structured activities—such as a guided historical tour, yoga games for all, and parallel sessions of a peace parenting workshop and fun yoga time for kids and “money yoga” for the “naughty.” Take a bath, soak in the hot tub, or lounge in the hideaway of a riverside hammock.
East Coasters from the Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. area will find this 150-acre Pennsylvania mountain retreat particularly easy to access.
Dates: A remarkable family retreat takes place November 13 – November 15, 2026.
Cost: For a family of two in a queen pod, an all-inclusive three-day, two-night experience starts at $1,180. YJ readers can enter code YJ2026 here For extended early bird special discounts. Code is valid until March 31, 2026.

3. Sansara Surf and Yoga Resort | Playa Cambutal, Panama
Hosted by mother-of-two and yoga instructor Stacey Bina, the Sansara Family Yoga and Adventure Retreat offers a five-day, six-night summer retreat for surfers of all levels. Beautiful beaches are a universally popular destination for family bonding, but Bina and her team take things up a notch, leaving no detail to chance.
Retreat participants will lounge on their couches amid the chocolate sands and turquoise waves of Panama City, engage in daily yoga practices tailored to all age groups, and bond with horses, turtles, and whales (as long as Mother Nature cooperates on a given day).
“Families are overwhelming right now: work-life imbalances, youth mental health concerns, social media comparisons, and pervasive social and environmental stress,” says Bina, who has more than 12 years of experience teaching lifelong yoga. “Wellness retreats provide a foundation of togetherness that families can build on long after they return home.”
When traveling: The Family Yoga and Adventure Retreat takes place from July 26 to August 1, 2026. Sansara also offers custom tours throughout the year.
Cost: Pricing for a villa that accommodates a family of four starts at $3,805. Current room rates reflect discounted low season rates and are subject to change. YJ readers can use the code Yoga Journal For a $150 family credit.
4. El Convento Yoga Retreat | Sierra de las Nevis National Park, Spain
El Convento is located in the heart of the Sierra de las Nevis National Park. The air is pollution-free and completely electricity-free, with all water sourced from a nearby spring. There is no phone reception and limited satellite internet, offering a real chance for families to get offline and reconnect with themselves and each other.
After two decades of immersing kids in nature while parents deepen their yoga practice, founders Nick and Henriette Freeman plan to elevate this summer’s family yoga retreats by focusing on outdoor adventures for kids ages 11 and up. “Screen use is on the rise, and we want to offer retreats to help everyone connect with the natural world,” says Nick. “Our last child is 14 years old, and we are very aware of how phones and the Internet extend his life.”
Henriette will serve as host, and Nick, who trained in the Ashtanga lineage with Pattabi Joyce, will oversee the hands-on support of their children. Their eldest son, 23, will lead the martial arts and fitness training, while their younger son will support the children’s activities.
Every morning, parents can breathe undisturbed through their asana practice as the children engage in Muay Thai or outdoor swimming in the spring-fed river. There are also options for paddle boarding and diving in the local village’s saltwater swimming pool, horseback riding in the Sierra de los Nues National Park, and more.
Dates: The Teen Family Yoga Retreat will be held from Thursday, July 23 through Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Cost: The all-inclusive eight-night, seven-day retreat is $895 for adults, $780 for teenagers.
